Revd. Canon Dr. M. Rosemarie Mallett

"I am the vicar of St John the Evangelist, Angell Town, the parish church for the school. I am also the Director of Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation for the Diocese of Southwark, which is the diocese that the school is a part of. I also work with the local council and an Equalities Commissioner and with a number of local community organisations. In everything I do I am centred on looking out for the best interests of young people in our area and on building up our community.

I'm delighted to be the Chair of Governors at St John’s and to be working with the staff and students. One of the highlights of my week is leading collective worship and seeing the children from Nursery through to Year 6 respond to the words of the bible and to the challenge to live a life of faith hope and love.

My own daughter went to St John’s, and so I know what a fantastic job it does to look after and support  the academic potential of every child and also their spiritual, moral and cultural well being.

St John ’s works hard to keep children safe and well, as it enables them to look at life as a journey of endless possibilities".

Hafiza Risour

"My name is Hafiza Risour and I am a Parent Governor at St John's.  I have one son who is currently in Year 5 and has attended St John's since Nursery.

I started off at St John's as a regular volunteer, providing support wherever I could within the school. This inspired me to become a parent governor.

Since becoming a governor,  I have attended meetings, taken part in school steering groups and all this has enabled me to increase my depth of knowledge and  understanding of governing a  school. I intend to use this knowledge gained to best represent the 'parent voice' of St John's".

Anna Manning

"I became a school governor for the first time at St. John's in 2015 after becoming a regular worshipper at St John the Evangelist and a local to Brixton.   My professional background is in law, which has equipped me well to scrutinise and challenge in order to support the leadership team at St John's.  I have a special interest in reading and I am currently supporting the school to create a library for our learners".

Glen Mehn

"I am Head of Development Innovation in the Innovation Skills team at Nesta, who works with multilaterals like UNDP, AfDB, IaDB, and MSF to design and deliver innovation programmes.

I have worked for over fifteen years supporting early stage innovation practice. I sat on steering committees and advisory boards for a range of for-profit and non-profit organisations including UNDP, DFID, Nike Foundation and Oxfam, as well as a range of Tech for Good startups.

From 2010-2016, I was a founder at Bethnal Green Ventures, Europe’s first accelerator programme supporting ventures using technology to solve social and environmental problems, working with Tech for Good organisations including FairphoneDrDoctorOpen Utility, and HearToday. During that time, I also led on BGV’s work with international organisations and delivered programmes in 25 countries on four continents.

Before that, I worked with a range of social startups in Uganda and Zambia, after a decade building IT systems for Silicon Valley startups. His first career was as a designer from the days when the internet was only used by people on green-and-black screens.

I hold a BA in English, Sociology and Design from the University of New Orleans and an MBA from Oxford University".

Chris Taylor

I am a chartered accountant working for one of the large accounting firms in London. I worship at St. Margaret’s, Chipstead where I have been both Church Treasurer and Churchwarden.

At the time that I became a Governor at St John’s, there was a link between the parishes of St John’s and St Margaret’s. Through this link an advert appeared in a Sunday pew sheet seeking someone with financial experience to join the Board of Governors at St John’s. I felt a strong calling to respond to this.

Since that time, I can honestly say that it has been an honour to serve as a Governor of the school. I have been blessed to have had an opportunity to meet so many inspiring people both within the school and within the local community.

I am married with two daughters – one of whom is at university and the other of whom is in her final year of school.

Terry Lewis

“It was an absolute pleasure to be considered to be governor and actually becoming one at St John’s.

For the last 25 years I have been working within Education, spanning from Primary through to University, and Europe.  I started as a youth worker in South London and was asked to work inside a pupil referral unit which changed my whole approach to education, so I decided to become a Behaviour Consultant looking at how to engage student who are indifferent.  After completing my Degree in Youth Justice And Social Policy, I went on to complete my QTLS and started running educational projects for various educational setting.  Currently, I run my own small company providing education and training to the unique.

I enjoy singing, and my most favourite pastime in reading.  I have a beautiful daughter who is currently in secondary school and I am guardian to my son from China who came to live with us 5 years ago and studied at Manchester University.  I am passionate about being able at what you are good at and never giving up on your dreams.”
